Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop Full Movie Online
In the so-called ‘Late Show Wars,’ Conan O’Brien might have been the latest casualty, but he has since bounced back with his own TBS talk show and a new documentary “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop,” which premiered at SXSW 2011 this week.
In the post-Johnny Carson world of “The Tonight Show,” what had been a funny, late-night tradition for millions of insomniacs turned into a talk show battlefield. David Letterman, who had considerable clout with NBC, admired Carson quite a bit and made no secret that he wanted the reins of “The Tonight Show,” but that honor went to Jay Leno in 1992. The in-house fighting at between Letterman, Leno’s camp, and NBC was documented in “The Late Shift,” an HBO original movie based on the book of the same name.
When the smoke cleared, Letterman moved his show over to CBS, Leno settled comfortably in Carson’s chair while a new kid called Conan O’Brien was filling Letterman’s “Late Night” slot. Within a few years, O’Brien earned a devoted following and was named Leno’s heir apparent for the coveted “Tonight Show” gig. Leno’s 2009 ‘retirement’ didn’t last long, however, and he returned to the show he hosted for 17 years. O’Brien didn’t agree with NBC’s machinations, so they handed O’Brien a hefty cash settlement and showed him the door.
“Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop” fills the gap between O’Brien’s late night departure and his return to the talk show arena in 2010. Director Rodman Flender followed his friend around as the comedian prepared for his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.” Appearing at the March 16 screening of the documentary, Flender said he had accumulated 149 hours of unedited footage of Conan on the road.
Flender captures O’Brien at his best and worst, and the “7 Stages of Grief” model for recovery plays a big part in this documentary. Facing a 6-month non-compete clause in his contract, the popular talk show host sits on the sidelines, and not even his settlement from NBC can ease that pain. O’Brien wants to stay connected with his fans, coming up with the multi-city comedy tour as a way to get back in the game. It’s a brilliant plan and, as the film shows, most venues sell out within an hour of O’Brien tweeting about it. Download_Conan_O_Brien_Can’t_Stop_movie Online
As shown by Flender, O’Brien takes the sell-out news with a mixture of elation and terror. The rest of “Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop” focuses on tour preparations, showing the angry, diva-like side of the comedian at times. When he threatens to fire his assistant for bringing him grilled fish swimming in butter, it is difficult to tell if he’s serious or simply vamping for the camera. After some shows, Conan won’t even allow himself the pleasure of basking in success, sitting instead on the backstage steps with a bottle of water and his head hanging low. Leap Year $4.10 Leap Year is one of the most delightful, relatable romantic comedies to come along in a great while, and its appeal is due in equal measure to the talents of its star, Amy Adams, and the lush, romantic countryside of Ireland. At the Movies $21.59 This Japanese import collects 18 tracks from Sting’s numerous film contributions, few of which ever achieved the popularity of his album cuts. It’s an odd assortment that leaves out recent successes such as his Oscar-nominated work on Cold Mountain, and there’s nothing here from 1982’s excellent Brimstone & Treacle soundtrack, one of the artist’s first forays into a solo career. My Funny Valentine: Sting at the Movies isn’t dreadful, but it will probably appeal to die-hard fans only. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi Performers: Michael Railton – Keyboards |

Silent Movies $12.78 On his third recording for the indie Pi Recordings imprint — home to some of the more exciting jazz recordings in the 21st century — guitarist Marc Ribot takes yet another turn in his prolific career. Silent Movies is a collection of 13 solo guitar pieces, recorded in complete takes with minimal sonic atmospherics added in overdub. The album was partially inspired by his experience of playing live as accompanist to a screening of Charlie Chaplin’s film The Kid. Some of these tunes were composed for Natalia Almada’s documentary El General and others for Drunk Boat (unreleased). This is mostly the deeply melodic side of Ribot. These utterly lovely works (all written by the guitarist save for the album’s final track) ask questions — often delicately, always deliberately — about the mysterious element that creates image from sound in the mind of a listener. While there isn’t a dull moment here, there is a certain kind of reverie that is evoked in the hearing. Even at its most animated, such as on the flamenco-inspired “Flicker,” the self-evidently titled “Fat Man Blues,” or the two-minute feedback-laden introduction to “Postcard from N.Y.” (which gives way to one of the most haunting melodic works here), there is a sense of space surrounding this music that is arresting in focus and even stillness. “Requiem for a Revolution” employs a gentle sense of dissonance that creates a mood juxtaposition, one that evokes idealism, pragmatism, and authoritarianism. “The Kid” touches on jazz, classical music, Chaplin’s compositions, and even Nino Rota’s more humorous moments. The set’s final cut, “Sous le Ciel de Paris,” is the title song to Julien Duvivier’s film of the same name and was a hit for Edith Piaf. Ribot employs both elegance and a specific rawness (not in technique but in the physicality of the guitar’s sound) to get at the emotion in the melody as sung by the great vocalist. He doesn’t so much re-create it as expand its range of color and texture, even when it gives way to restrained sonic textures and white noise as the album whispers to a close. For those interested in one of the more compelling and quietly provocative and graceful guitar records of 2010, Silent Movies is well worth seeking out. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi Performers: Marc Ribot – Vibraphone, Guitar |
